I’ve started reading the Book of Mormon. I do voices for all the characters like I would with a children’s book. I find it’s easier to get through a whole chapter this way, or I may be getting older.
In 1 Nephi 2: 7 Lehi “built an altar of stones, and made an offering unto the Lord, and gave thanks unto the Lord our God.” As we know from Genesis 4: 4-5 “the Lord had respect unto Abel and to this offering [of the firstlings of his flock]. But unto Cain and his offering [of the fruit of the ground] he had not respect.”
The Lord demands animal sacrifice!
I will take it one step further. I propose that we sacrifice ourselves. After all, Homo sapiens are some of the best/worst animals on the planet. We are counseled to be “in the world, but not of the world”. Let us heed that council in this new year, and resolve to sacrifice our baser instincts. Let us cast off the more animalistic aspects of humanity, and reach for a higher standard, a Standard of Excellence. Who’s with me?
